I am drawn to the details found when observing something up close and discovering its unexpected layers and patterns. By looking deeper and investigating beneath the surface, beauty and possibilities are discovered.
In my work, I employ an explorative process of adding, deleting and building up, using a variety of media to create depth and movement. The layering process is fascinating. With each layer something new emerges, while other things become hidden or obstructed. Light and shadow continuously provide new perspectives.
My current work, “Beneath the Surface,” is heavily influenced by the ocean. Living on the coast, I sit in awe of what is revealed, hidden and carried by the ebb and flow of the tidal cycle. This series of work provides snapshots of the remarkable richness and complexity I observe.
